Clinical Preceptor – EMS Training Academy

Job Description

Will assist the LifeCare EMS Training Academy with all aspects of training individuals who attends the Academy. To fill out all training records as required by the program. Willing to continue to enhance your knowledge and stay updated on changes in curriculum.  To help in motivating students to engage in learning process and provide appropriate feedback to reinforce their success. To interact with students and instructors in a helpful way. To Guide them throughout the hospital for rotation in other areas of the facility, CCU, ICU, Psychiatric, Obstetrics.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes required preceptor preparation through Orientation
  • To effectively communicate lessons to students and retains responsibility for the patient care assignment for all students
  • Reviews and discusses with the student the objectives and guides his/her learning through selection of patient activity to increasing complex duties in order to meet clinical objectives
  • Completes a written evaluation of the students at every clinical session, and signs off, sends evaluation form to Paramedic Office for review
  • Ability to fairly evaluate skills and student’s performance during training sessions and provide feedback to the student at the end of the clinical session in a positive manner
  • Completes student clinical portfolio (PPCP) for each student that is being monitored in the clinical setting
  • To be prepared and reliable to attend sessions your assigned and preceptor meetings/updates
  • To follow and the planned course agenda provided by the Lead Instructor or the Program Director
  • Preceptor should have knowledge of hospital’s policies and procedures and a positive interaction with staff in the hospital setting
  • To never allow a student to perform a skill on a patient without being monitored by yourself, RN or Physician
  • To continue to maintain enthusiasm in the desire to teach
  • To provide the education department the proper documentation of student’s attendance and evaluation paperwork


  • Must be an RN or a Paramedic with 2 years of experience working in the field or ER.
  • To have or working towards EMSI and ACLS instructor card
  • EMS Certification/Preceptor training
  • Experience in the field of Healthcare, EMS, RN, PA, Physician
  • Knowledge of Curriculum, Communication skills, Writing skills
  • Must be certified in ACLS, BLS, and PALS
  • Must follow guidelines as outlined in “Preceptor Guideline”
  • Must follow OSHA Guideline 29CFR1910.1030
  • Must follow Federal Criteria concerning student status
